Vice President Speech

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, my name is Rian Russo and I am running for Vice President. I am a sophomore at Kingswood Regional High school. I am involved in many sports one of them being Judo. I have been previously ranked #1 in the country for this sport and I train with the US Olympic team. With judo I have learned that with being a champion comes being humble and never giving up. I believe all of these values will be tied into my vice presidency. One of the most important core values of the Democratic Party is that Democrats believe that we're greater together than we are on our own; that this country succeeds when everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same rules. With my Vice Presidency I have set multiple goals that I can guarantee one of my priorities being immigration.
Immigrants are treated as a disease in America but they are not they are all a contributing part of our society and have been for a long time. There are so many ways we can help these people some of them being; the DREAM act, another way is protecting immigrants who are brought over to America to work and then are deported for doing nothing wrong other than working because they were told they could. The employers are to be subject to penalties, and for the immigrants we support restoration of basic due process protections, so that immigrants are no longer subject to deportation for minor offenses and are eligible to receive safety net services supported by their tax dollars
Another huge problem we as Americans face today is obesity.1 out of 3 kids today are considered overweight or obese and 60% of adults are considered overweight or obese. This is a problem that we have been over looking for a long time, we have also been giving the wrong answers to fix this problem. We need to give kids and or adults a way to fight back. All children need to have access to a nutritious diet with plenty of exercise. All kids also need the correct treatment if diagnosed with Diabetes. Obesity needs to be treated as a disease not a joke.

We, the democratic party, believe that everyone is created equal and entitled to their civil rights. Our party fully supports the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. We will also fight for fair housing, equal pay, and keeping marriage laws at the state level so that there can be no federal gay marriage ban. Also, we support the rights and freedoms of churches and religious beings to decide how to administer marriage without government interference. We will fight against race and religious profiling. Some parts of the Patriot Act could be strengthened so that our individual rights, like the library provisions, are no longer threatened. We will do our best to support our veterans in making sure they are employed and are in good living conditions.
